It has been Read Twice

Scene 1
(Empty cabin only light comes from a window. It looks very 1950’s, five old looking bunk beds, tacky looking lamps fill the room. The time is late winter of 2003.Off stage left a bus pulls up, and voices are heard.)

(L door opens Tom McNeil, looks 28, an old New York Yankee shirt, happy, and tired. Lights go up.)

Tom: (Breathes deep) Man (yawns) that was a long bus
trip.
(Scott Ammos enters, looks 27 too, and wears a dirty METS shirt, carrying a lot of luggage, angry and very tired.)

Scott: Thanks. You say ride, not trip.

Tom: So. (Crosses to CR, lies down) You’re welcome. Nice shirt, it’s much better now.

Scott: Shut up. Why didn’t you help me bring this stuff in?

Tom: I don’t like to help your type people.

Scott: What people?

Tom: Met fans. (He laughs) Where are the kids?

Scott: Their coming.

(Enters Chris, Kevin, Onday, and Wilson all young and tired.)

Chris: I don’t feel good.

Kevin: Don’t make deck you.

Chris: “deck you” what are we in the 50’s.

Onday: sure looks like it.

Tom: Where’s John?

Scott: O, God we lost him. Not five minutes and we already lost him. I told you this would happen, we shouldn’t have brought him. (Sits up, almost crying, crosses to UC door) If you need me I’ll be in the bathroom. (Slams door)

Wilson: But he’s outside

(Enter John he is the oldest of the children, and a wise guy, he’s holding a red bag.)

John: Bye girls. God they love me. So what I miss?

Tom: Now you’re staying out there!

(Tom moves to his bed-top bunk- unpacks then lies down.
Everyone else stands for a minute, moves to their beds unpacks. Off back-stage you hear a window break, bathroom door opens John with a twig in his hair all dirty and bleeding from the arm.)
